Kennedy Confused - 10/25/2003

WASHINGTON -- The Senate chamber was filled with audible gasps last Tuesday when Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the pro-choice champion, clearly voted "yes" on final passage of the bill to ban partial-birth abortion. It was a mistake, however, and Kennedy changed his vote to "no" a few minutes later.

This marked the second time in a week that Kennedy, widely considered the most powerful member of the Senate, became confused on an important vote. He mistakenly voted with President Bush in opposing a Democratic-backed amendment to require partial Iraqi repayment of U.S. reconstruction aid. On that occasion, Senate Democratic Leader Thomas Daschle conferred with Kennedy and prompted him to change his vote.

Extreme Media - 10/25/2003

If you've ever wanted to be a reporter, here's your chance. Walk into any record store, and ask the clerk who's buying the new CD by gangsta rapper Ludacris featuring the sure-to-be classic tune "Hoes in My Room." Then go to the nearest multiplex theatre and see who's buying tickets to "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Kill Bill," a movie some have labeled as the most violent film ever made. But if you don't want to do the leg work, I can tell you right now who is consuming these products: children.

Let's take a look at "Kill Bill" (which, by the way, is not about me). The New York Times writes: "the undeniable passion that drives "Kill Bill" is fascinating, even, strange to say it, endearing."

A Lynch Mob Gathers: Part III - 10/24/2003

Senator Charles Schumer went on television on October 22nd to announce that he was prepared to urge his fellow Democrats to filibuster, in order to prevent a Senate vote on the nomination of California Supreme Court Justice Janice Rogers Brown to become a federal judge on the Circuit Court of Appeals in Washington.

In other words, Senator Schumer is prepared to deny other Senators the right to vote yes or no on Justice Brown. He has turned the Senate's Constitutional duty to "advise and consent" on judicial nominees into the Senate minority's ability to delay and obstruct.
